ANAL ITCHING

This is also called pruritus ani. As embarrassing as this could be in public, it is not an uncommon scene. Anal itching often come with intense urge to scratch.

Major clinical conditions that cause anal itch include: hemorrhoids, parasite infection like pin worm, yeast infections, fecal incontinence (leaking stool), atopic dermatitis etc.

Other causes include consumption of spicy food, laxatives and citrus.

When anal itching causes bleeding, open wound or severe itching, you need to see a doctor.

TREATMENT
Your doctor can prescribe antibacterial, antifungal or antiparasite depending on the cause of the anal itch.
If the cause is hemorrhoids, medical, dietary counsel or surgical intervention might be an option depending on the stage of the hemorrhoids.
